According to calculations from the DB Environment Center, our train produces around 280 kg per metric ton transported, approximately 95 percent less CO2 emissions than air freight. Shipping by air freight would produce around 5,000 kg of CO2 emissions per metric ton. Calculations are based on a distance of just under 12,000 kilometers using primarily electric traction and taking into account the different energy mixes of the transit countries.
